What is a trading competition? As we all know, the surest way to get into quantitative finance is to get an internship. Not only can an internship lead to a full-time offer, but it can also showcase your professional abilities to other companies. As a result, students spend weeks each year honing side projects, polishing their resumes, practicing mental math games, and taking online courses to prepare for internship interviews. While these are great ways to prepare, students often overlook a simpler, more efficient option: Trading Competition. As the name suggests, trading competitions are competitions organized by academic institutions or companies in which students form teams to trade in a risk-free environment (i.e., using "virtual funds" in the competition). Most trading contests start on Friday evening and run throughout the weekend.
